About the Artist

Julie Janisch was born and raised in Ohio. She met the love of her life, Joe, in college choir and thy married in 1978. In 1999 she moved to Charleston when Joe accepted a position at the University of Charleston. Julie served as the Director of Worship Arts at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in St. Albans from 2000 - 2015. She became the Director of Music at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Charleston in 2015. She retired from that position in August of 2023.

Julie's education includes a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education (1977 - Ashland University; Ashland, OH), a Master's Degree in Church Music (1997 - Trinity Lutheran Seminary; Columbus, OH), and a Doctorate in Worship Studies (2013 - The Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies; Orange Park, FL). Her doctoral thesis explored the difference between membership and discipleship culture in the church.

Julie is Co-Dean of the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She sings in the Opus Chorale of WV. Her current favorite hobby is quilting.
